Program Description

Cumberland’s year-round Elite Academy, is the first program in Ottawa to provide a European-calibre academy training environment for serious youth players looking to play at the next level.  Teams will train after school every week night, with inter-squad, full-field sessions, friendlies and tournaments on Saturdays.  Players will finish training by 5:30 each weeknight, and will have the remainder of their day for homework, family life, and other extra-curriculars. Weekends will be reserved for game play.

The training program is “periodized” accross the year.  This means that training loads and schedules are carefully planned and prepared so that the physical, technical, tactical and social development of the players is balanced and optimized across the entire season.  This includes:

  • Proper rest periods (scheduled time off throughout the year)
  • Cross-training (strength, conditioning, yoga, athlete development)
  • Mental/psychological development (sports psyche, goal setting, nutrition, university prep seminars, etc.)
  • Tactical/physical and technical training in order to peak at the right times during the season.

All sessions are designed and run by professional staff coaches, augmented by each team’s Academy coach.  With the benefit of the adjusted after-school schedule, staff coaches are also able to attend many of games to ensure that players always get the best guidance and coaching available in this region. Our formula to producing top players is simple: train with the best players, with the best coaches, more often than others, while competing at the highest levels in the province.
